Kane County (IL) Delnor Hospital Standoff
In May of 2017, a jail inmate was transported to Delnor Hospital after his third suicide attempt. While still in custody at the hospital, the inmate got into a physical altercation with a corrections officer. During the altercation the inmate overtook the officer and disarmed him. While on the 3 rd floor, he took a nursing supervisor hostage. When the inmate tried to escape with the hostage, he trapped himself in a small room off of the ambulance bay. Negotiations began and continued for several hours.
